State Representative Allen Skillicorn (R-Crystal Lake) is sending a notice to local women looking to pursue their college education. The Conference of Women Legislators (COWL), a not-for-profit and bipartisan coalition of women legislators in the Illinois General Assembly recently announced their 2019-2020 Scholarship Award Program.
COWL created the scholarship program as part of its mission to promote economic independence, community service and leadership development. Scholarships of $2,500 each will be awarded. The scholarships are for women 25 and older seeking to complete, or continue, their undergraduate education.
“The COWL scholarship program is a great opportunity for women who are interested in going back to school,” said Skillicorn. “Advancing the educational development of women is not just a great way to improve career opportunities, but our communities as a whole. I hope those working on their undergraduate studies, or hoping to begin studying, will take advantage of this opportunity.”
Scholarship applicants are required to enroll in an Illinois accredited college or university for a minimum of six credit hours to qualify, making the scholarships available to part-time and online students. Applications must be postmarked or emailed by April 30, 2019. Awardees will be notified by May 31, 2019. Application materials may be downloaded from www.cowlil.com.
The majority of the charitable funds raised by the group come from COWL’s annual fundraisers, such as “Capitol Capers,” featuring performances by lawmakers from around the state.
